Directions

From downtown Pittsburgh, the airport can be reached via the Fort Pitt tunnels on RT 279 South, a distance of roughly 11 miles. Follow 279 South to RT 22/30 and then to RT 60 North approximately seven miles. This is the same road, however, the name changes. The airport exit is at Airport Exit #5.

Physically, Pittsburgh International is laid out with what is called the Landside Terminal next to parking and the Hyatt Regency Hotel. Travelers pass through this terminal to check in for flights before passing the security checkpoints. Closest to the Landside Terminal is the airside Commuter Terminal, also called Gate E, which handles commuter flights. Beyond the Commuter Terminal is the main Airside Terminal. An indoor Moving Walkway connects the Landside Terminal to both the Commuter and the Airside Terminal.

Landside Terminal

The Landside Terminal is a four-level building. The first level houses the baggage claim. The second level is the 'transit area' where the security checkpoints are located; it is to this level that the indoor moving walkway to the Airside Terminal connects. The third level houses the airline ticket counters, and the fourth level is a mezzanine.

Airside Terminal (Core)

The main airside terminal is called the Core. Arranged around the Core like the spokes of a wheel are four concourses-on this airport's Web site they are also called gates-named A, B, C, and D. The Airside Terminal is connected to the Landside Terminal by the indoor Moving Walkway previously mentioned.
