Burbank Airport was officially renamed Bob Hope Airport in December 2003 on the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers' first flight, which, coincidentally, was the year Hope was born. Situated just minutes from Hollywood, the honor was especially fitting for the legendary entertainer.

As the closest airport to Hollywood, the Valley, and downtown L.A, the airport is about 10 minutes from Disneyland and several studios, including NBC, Warner Bros., and Universal.

Bob Hope Airport opened on Memorial Day weekend in 1930. Lockheed bought the airport in 1940, expanded it in support of the war effort, and later operated it as a commercial airport. It sold the airport in 1978, and today BUR is operated by the city's airport authority.

With flights up and down the West Coast as well as to mid-continent hubs such as Denver, Dallas-Ft. Worth, and even New York, BUR is a convenient airport for Angelinos. The airport serves 5 million passengers annually.

From Los Angeles (about 10 miles)

Take US-101 N toward Hollywood Freeway/Harbor Freeway.. Merge onto CA-110 N toward Pasadena. Take the I-5 FWY N/Golden State Freeway exit on the left toward Sacramento. Merge onto I-5 N. Take Exit 147B toward Lincoln Street. Keep going straight to north San Fernando Boulevard. Turn left onto Winona Avenue. Turn left onto North Hollywood Way.

From Manhattan Beach (about 43 miles)

Head northeast on 11TH Pace toward Highland Avenue. Turn left onto Highland. Turn right onto Manhattan Beach Boulevard. Turn left onto CA-1 N. Turn right onto Rosecrans Avenue. Merge onto I-405 N. Merge onto US-101 S toward Los Angeles. Keep left to take CA-134 E toward Burbank/Glendale. Take the Pass Avenue exit (Exit 2) toward Burbank. Turn left onto north Pass Avenue. Turn right onto west Magnolia Boulevard. Turn left onto north Hollywood Way.
