The Birmingham International Airport is located 10 kilometers (6 miles) southeast of Birmingham, England. It is the sixth busiest airport in the United Kingdom after four London airports and Manchester Airport, with about nine million passengers each year. The airport made British headlines in June 2007 when investigations into airport security found serious breaches of protocol involving baggage x-rays and contractors working under the influence of drugs. The airport is now undergoing an aggressive development plan to modernize and expand the facilities, partly in anticipation of the 2012 London Summer Olympics.

The airport services many destinations in Europe, the Middle East, and a few in the Americas. This terminal has gates for Air France, British Airways, Brussels Airlines, Eastern, Flybe, Flywhoosh, KLM, and Swiss International.
